[Subject: Hardship Letter] -Optional-

Dear [Recipients Name],

I am writing this letter to inform you about why I have not been able to pay off my tax debt. The reason for it is that I have experienced financial hardship in the past few months.

On [Date], I [got injured, got fired, etc.], which is why my financial situation has not been at its best. I am looking to get back on track very soon, as soon as I [find a new job, get my health into order, etc.]

Please know that I don’t take my tax duties for granted and that I am very embarrassed to be in this situation in the first place. I hope this did not cause any inconvenience. If you need any further information, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

[Senders Name]
