RV Park, Salton Sea, California

Tim Melideo

From the series Desert Dystopia. Marketed as a playground for the rich in the mid-twentieth century, Southern California Salton Sea aspired to become the next French Riviera. That dream was buried decades ago after devastating floods wiped out the area's thriving yatch clubs, chic motels and fine dining establishments. Undaunted by the now polluted sea and desolation, its current residents, largely RVers from the North, enjoy the dirt cheap cost of living and year-round sun.
